Android apps on cood-e
« on: November 13, 2015, 11:44:36 AM »
I'm starting to like this device  8)

I have a slingplayer and was looking to install its player app on the cood-e. This is what I did:

Install this skin: confluenceplus plus skin

Now you will have access to android apps from the kodi home screen.

Google play is available on the app list and you can install any app you want!
Using the cood-e remote can be awkward but it works.

Dear aln,

+1 for sharing this with the COOD-E community, we tested the skin as well and it works, you can install / update android apps from the google play store. :)

As we all know a lot of our users want to update the KODI version of the COOD-E TV, so maybe some users  (like us) will immediately try to update the KODI software….

**IMPORTANT, DO NOT UPDATE KODI**

when you try to update the KODI version via the Google Play Store, this will crash your COOD-E TV and it’s not possible to get it running again using the normal recovery mode
So enjoy this work around to get all Android apps, but do not update the KODI software!

In the meantime we're still working on a system update for the COOD-E TV

An additional tip for people who want to stay on the default COOD-E skin, but still want to have access to Android apps; install the Confluence++ skin as suggested by user aln; install the Android apps you want and add them to Favorites. Then change back to the default COOD-E skin and use the Favorites section on top to access your apps.

With this work around you can put almost every app from the Google Play store on the device.

Please note that some apps will not work with the standard remote because they're made for a touch interface.

Yes, for example it seems to be impossible to pull up the 'Now Playing' screen in Spotify :)

Yep, that's the problem, the GUI of android apps are mainly built for touch interface, you can connect a mouse for the time being, later we'll have the COOD-E KEY with integrated air mouse which solves that problem as well.

Indeed, using the remote is awkward but still it works.
I don't think you could play games on cood-e  ;D but so far I've got my slingbox player (very happy with this one as the video quality is superb) and an ftp server installed and they are very much useable with the remote.
One handy app to install is "uninstaller" because the cood-e default settings app is very limited.
I've also learned that to install apks from untrusted sources is enabled by default on cood-e.

If you really want to use an app which is depended on touch screen you could, as was already suggested, use a mouse but you could also install a vnc server on cood-e and control it from another device.

It's possible  to enable "mouse mode", but you need a programmable universal remote, like a Logitech Harmony. When you add the kodi remote manually by recording the IR command, you also get some extra commands. Pressing 0 will make a mouse cursor appear on screen.

Actually you need a mouse even for some of the Cood-e configuration menu's. It's impossible to remove a bluetooth device without it.

Awesome, great to see some android apps on this device.

Does anyone know how to resize/scale the apps?
I've tried a couple of apps and all of them are too big for the tv resolution (1080p)

Download confluance ++ skin and use it.
Go to the programs menu (the one next to system)
Once there you can select programs, android app, file location.choose android apps/programs..
There you can download play store install it and log in with Google account.
In playstore download and Install ES File explorer and
download and install apex launcher.
Now when you press the home button on the remote you can choose between launcher , choose apex.
In apex launcher you can do anything you used to be with android and also enter the internet browser .
Of you will press the home Button on the remote a menu pops up and you can choose apex or xbmc launcher.
Choose apex.
Once in alex you will now be able to go in all the android settings in setting menu and if you want you can select apex as a standaart launcher so it will boot in android every time you start your coode box this way you'll have a android TV box instead of only the coode media streamer..

Hope I explained it in a easy way because I'm not so good in English I'm from the Netherlands so English isn't my native language..
